Rickshaw drivers spend time with the Scriptures

MADAGASCAR — Colourful rickshaws are everywhere on the streets of Madagascar. When they are not rushing people from place to place, however, rickshaw drivers can find that the time drags. They like to sit chatting together, but there is little else for them to do while they wait for the next customer. Many have limited literacy skills, so reading is not easy for them.
There are 5,000 rickshaw drivers in Antsirabe, Madagascar’s thirdlargest city. Noticing an opportunity to establish contact with this significant population group, staff at the Malagasy Bible Society’s depot there decided to provide them with a Scripture Selection written in language that they would be able to understand. In collaboration with Bible Society volunteers and members of the Fellowship of Evangelical Students, it distributed copies of a Selection entitled My Hope. Having seen many drivers respond positively to this initiative, the Bible Society is now planning to distribute the Selection to drivers working in other cities.
