Mei Changlan

Mei Changlan, 85, is full of passion and pride as she reads out loud from Psalm 91. She never had the opportunity to attend school and she has only recently learnt how to read the Bible, which took her a long time. Illiteracy is widespread in China, in both rural and urban areas, and many churches are starting to offer literacy classes so that Christians can learn to read their Bibles for themselves. In fact, lessons in how to teach literacy are an important part of the curriculum in many theological colleges. UBS is supporting a number of literacy programs in China.
