By Kjell Hagen, Freelance Photojournalist Sun Men Li, 18, practises on the old organ at the Anhui Theological Seminary for hours on end. “Music is important in a church,” explains the first-year student who hopes to become a pastor one day. But that is a long way ahead – first of all he has to complete three years of training and then two to three years of work in a church – so he is concentrating on his studies. “My first aim is to give my life to Jesus and learn more about him,” he says. “Then I hope the rest of my life will fall into place.” Sun Men’s parents are Christians and took him to church with them from an early age – something that he is very thankful for. He is enjoying his first year at the college because much of the work involves intensive study of the Scriptures. “Most things we do are about God’s Word, and I like that!” he smiles.
