Societies offer Narnia tie-ins
HONG KONG Grasping the opportunity offered by the recent popular Disney film The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe, a number of Bible Societies have produced related resources designed to help audiences discover the Christian truth that inspired the writer of the Narnia books, C S Lewis. It is generally acknowledged that Lewis, a Christian apologist and university academic as well as a childrens author, explored the themes of Christs love, sacrifice and dedication in the Narnia stories though not all fans of the popular stories read them this way. Kingdom of GodA booklet entitled Narnia Bible/Narnia Passport, co-published by the Hong Kong Bible Society and The Media Evangelism, lists Bible verses corresponding to the story and dialogue in the film, pointing beyond the magical kingdom it depicts to the kingdom of God. With 32-pages and plenty of full-colour pictures taken from the film, the booklet is being made available free to Christians who want to use the film as an opportunity to share the Gospel with people who have seen it. The Bible Society of Singapore, meanwhile, is making the film available on DVD and VCD. The Narnia Witness Pack consists of a choice of VCD/DVD/Special Collectors Edition DVD Set, a Narnia edition of Matthews Gospel, and a Gospel Portion based on the Narnia theme. The British and Foreign Bible Society is offering a 14-CD boxed audio set of The Chronicles of Narnia read by the well-known English actor Sir Michael Hordern. It has also produced a guide to help Christian-led groups discuss the film. The guide comes in the Societys series of film discussion aids Reel Issues. (WR 402/25 - 06.06) |
