Audio Scriptures bring Bible message alive in Guatemala

GUATEMALA — Brother José cannot read and does not understand Spanish.

“When we received the cassettes of the Mam New Testament and started listening to them, it was like a feast for me. For the first time I was able to listen to so many chapters of the Word of God in my heart language. It is easy to understand and I do not get tired.

“Every time I listen, I picture the scenes in my mind, I picture Jesus teaching. I can also imagine what the people are doing while Jesus is teaching them.

Pain in my heart

“I thought about our brethren in other villages who do not have this material. I asked Brother Misael if these cassettes were for all the denominations, and he said yes, but that he did not have time to visit all the churches. I felt a pain in my heart and I also felt the need to take these cassettes to other churches. I offered my help to Brother Misael. At the present time I have distributed nine sets, and I feel so good to see that people who cannot read now have the Word of God on cassette. My desire is that everyone understands the Word of God, just as I did when I listened to the cassettes.”

Life is cleaner

Samuel attends Cristo Te Ama Church. He says happily that his life has changed since listening to the Quechua audio Bible. The Bible Society workers asked him what type of change he was referring to.

“With respect to sin, I am becoming another man; I have noticed that I no longer fall into the same sins as before. My life is cleaner, and that has brought me a peace that I had not experienced before.

“I know today how the one who walks in the straight path feels. I am not saying I am a saint, but I know I am very different from who I was before.”

Changed a lot!

The workers asked if any of his relatives were in the congregation, and a young man named Joel raised his hand. They asked what his relationship to Samuel was and if it was true that he had changed. Joel said Samuel is his brother and responded with a smile, “Yes, he has changed a lot! He no longer disturbs me. He fights with me no more.”

It seems that Samuel’s old attitude was the same as that of many older brothers toward their younger brothers. But God has changed Samuel, and this testimony comes from members of his family.
