I gave Scriptures to my dentist and to the National Folk Music OrchestraTranslators attached to Kitab Shirketi, the Book Company, which conducts Bible work in Azerbaijan, have a commendable habit of distributing Scriptures personally with encouraging results AZERBAIJAN When I was working with the church hospital ministry, I gave some copies of the New Testament to patients in the toxicology department of the Baku State Clinic. Many of the patients treated there have tried to commit suicide. They were happy to find a new hope in the Lord Jesus. I also distributed copies of the New Testament when I visited the womens prison as part of the church team. The women were delighted to hear about the love of the Lord Jesus. I also gave a copy of the New Testament to my dentist, another to my sister-in-law and one to my niece when they had serious problems in their lives. Some members of my church are very poor and cannot afford to buy them so I bought and distributed some copies to them. In fact, it is hard for me to buy them myself. I would like to buy more but I cant afford it. It is good when someone gives the financial support that means copies of the New Testament can be provided to many people for nothing. Nahida Rzayeva, translator Womens prisonAt one stage I could not afford to buy copies of the New Testaments by myself, so I bought them with help from my church, Love Baptist Church, and gave them to a lot of people. They included patients at the State Oncological Hospital, patients at the Tuberculosis Prevention Centre and women in the womens prison. I also gave copies to my dentist and his family. This way many people heard the glorious Gospel and were saved. I can tell the story of how a lady called Validah, who had cancer, visited our church and made a decision to follow the Lord. Other people in her family followed her example. Many people who have been released from prison have come to our church and received the Lord Jesus. They have given testimonies of how the Word of God reached them when they were hopeless. They were abandoned by their families and left alone in prison. Some of them are very sick and poor now and even after they have been released from prison no-one comes to see them. But I have visited them and given them copies of the New Testament. I have also given New Testaments to drug addicts and prostitutes so that they could begin a new life with Jesus. We need a lot of copies of the New Testament in Azeri these days: there are so many people who need to hear the Good News. Tarana Mirzayeva, translator (The two testimonies above refer to project 71802.) Free of chargeI have given out New Testaments in the Azerbaijani language many times. Some of them I have bought with my own money and some I got free of charge from my place of work. I gave copies to my neighbours in Baku and Shemakha and I distributed New Testaments in the village of Agh Arkh in the Aghsu region. I gave several copies to my dentist and to the medical nurses. I gave some to the doctors in the dermatology clinic and in the oncology clinic, too. I distributed some in the beauty salon to the hairdresser and cosmetologist. I gave New Testaments to my nephews and nieces. Often when my Christian sisters go to do outreach they ask me for copies of the New Testament. I buy them from the Bible Society and give them to my sisters. Once I bought some from the Bible Society and distributed them when I was on a trip to the Sabirabad region. I gave copies of the New Testament to my colleagues working in the areas of arts and culture. A lot of them made a decision to follow the Lord Jesus. Recently Azerbaijans National Folk Music Orchestra was having major problems. Officials in the Ministry of Culture wanted the orchestra closed down. I went and gave some of the members the New Testament and spoke to them about Jesus. The orchestras conductor, Nariman Azimov, said that the words of Scripture comforted him more than doctors and medicine. Tarana Nasirova, translator (WR 401/9 - 04/05.06) |
