I am living proof that handing out Scriptures can change lives
SAN JOSÉ, Costa Rica A few years ago, a woman visited the Bible Society to tell them that receiving a Bible had saved her marriage. She and her husband had decided to get divorced, but before telling their children, they wanted to take them to the beach and have their last happy day out as a family. While the children played in the sea with her husband, she fell asleep in the sun. When she woke up, she found that somebody had put a New Testament on her stomach. She had not brought her own book to read, so she opened the New Testament. She became completely absorbed in it and when they got home that night, she continued reading it. She was so moved by what she read that she told her husband about it and gave it to him when she had finished. The book made a great impression on him too, and they agreed to find a church because they wanted to learn more about Jesus and how his message could help them. Inspired by what they had read and with the help of a church, they decided to work through their marriage problems and start afresh. Three years later the woman wanted to thank the Bible Society for making the Scriptures available to people, and to tell them that she now buys Bibles and New Testaments to distribute to others. I am living proof that handing out Scriptures can change lives, she smiled. (WR 387/22 - 8/9.04) |
