The first International Congress of Ethnic Chinese Biblical Scholars was held at Chung Chi College, part of the Chinese University of Hong Kong, at the end of May. The purpose of the meeting was to promote Asian biblical scholarship for scholarly consultation, pedagogical exchange and networking. The 76 participants, from the Far East, Australia, the United States and Europe, represented either a religious minority or an ethnic minority in their respective countries or both. Representatives from United Bible Societies who took part were Joseph Hong, Seree Lorgunpai, Peng Kuo-Wei, Daud Soesilo, Anwar Tjen, Simon Wong and Yu Suee Yan. The next congress is due to be held in Singapore in 2007.
