George Andrea, who heads the Bible Society
in Lebanons activities in Syria, and his staff spent more
than five months preparing for the annual International Book Fair in
Damascus in October. They then spent 10 strenuous days manning the Societys
stall. Crowds flocked to the fair, with many showing great interest
in Bible Society publications. The commitment of the staff was rewarded
by hearing from some visitors how the Bible has touched their lives.

October 16 and November 6, 2003 (WR 382/18-12.03) SCOTLAND The Scottish Bible Society is running a campaign using four eye-catching posters, each promoting a different bite-sized Bible story presented in the form of a novel. The posters are designed to prompt people to visit a dedicated web site, www.bookofgod.org, and to purchase the special books for £1 (US$1.67) each. The books present brilliant stories that speak to the human condition and should be very effective in attracting peoples attention, according to Executive Director the Rev Doug Campbell. e-261 October 23, 2003 (WR 382/19-12.01) VENEZUELA Bibles donated by United Bible Societies in Venezuela were given to prisoners in the western state of Táchira to mark the Day of the Bible (September 30). The 100 Scriptures were part of a total of 2,000 given to prison inmates in the town of Santa Ana, thanks largely to the active support of members of the state government. Each prisoner also received a personal letter from the Governor of the State of Táchira recounting the story of how he came to know Jesus Christ. e-262 (WR 382/20-12.03) |
