O-21
programs supply Scriptures to prisoners and the elderly
BUCHAREST,
Romania Opportunity
21 (O-21) projects in Romania
include initiatives targeting people who have traditionally been on
the margins of society and who may have had little opportunity to hear
Gods Word. The photographs on this page give an insight into the
work of the Interconfessional Bible Society
in Romania (IBSR) among such groups.

As part of its three-year O-21
project The Light of Gods Word for Prisoners, the
IBSR visited the womens section at Cluj-Napoca prison (left).
There, one of the women spoke
of her desire for forgiveness being as great as her desire for
freedom.

The Light of Gods Word
for Prisoners involves reaching out to young prisoners who
were brought up under the communist regime and consequently were
denied access to the Scriptures and the opportunity to learn Christian
values.

Gherla prison reads a Bible outside the prison chapel. At the
entrance of the chapel, there is a painting by a prisoner representing
the parable of the Prodigal Son.

Through
the project The Light of Gods Word for the Disadvantaged
Elderly, the IBSR is working in old peoples homes. Romanias
elderly people continue to live with the legacy of having been denied
religious freedom, and many also feel that they have been abandoned
by their families and society. The IBSR has supplied Bibles, Psalters
and New Testaments to residents of the Saint Nicholas old peoples
home in Mociu (left) as part of a wider effort to provide
them with spiritual support. |
