Enthusiastic response from first visitors to Bible World in BeirutBEIRUT, Lebanon The first children to officially visit the Bible Society in Lebanons Bible World exhibition in Beirut in November made some very enthusiastic comments about their experience. The exhibition, which is based on the Scottish Bible Societys Bible World, uses the latest multimedia technology to bring the Bible to life for children.
The staff and volunteers who received the first group of 26 children were initially rather nervous, aware that this two-hour visit would be the test of 18 months of preparation and prayer, according to Mike Bassous, the Societys Deputy General Secretary. However, it soon became clear that the equipment was performing well and that the children were captivated by the various interactive activities. One child said, I was moved and excited after I visited Bible World; reading the Bible will strengthen my faith and love for God. Another commented, I feel attached to the Bible after this visit, and I want to read all about Jesus and the apostles, while a third childs response was: This experience has encouraged me to read the Bible and to get to know God more. In total, more than 500 children were due to visit Bible World before the end of 2002, with many school and Sunday School groups having already made bookings for 2003. Mr Bassous believes that the strong interest in Bible World has confirmed for Society staff that the exhibition will be one of the most effective Bible engagement programs for Lebanese children.
