UBS fellowship asked to pray for Malawi

BLANTYRE, Malawi — The Bible Society of Malawi has called on the United Bible Societies fellowship to pray that God will intervene to help the victims of floods that hit the country in early January.

Six regions have been officially declared disaster areas after crops and homes were washed away, and President Bakili Muluzi has appealed for international food and non-food aid.

Kamwana Muyaya, the Bible Society’s Marketing Manager, said that the floods have worsened conditions in a country which is still suffering the effects of a severe drought. Some food aid is now being distributed, but subsistence farmers have no crops to sell in order to purchase other items.
The Bible Society’s Scripture distribution program is likely to be disrupted once more, but the Society is nevertheless formulating a project with which to meet people’s Scripture needs. (WR 375/30 - 3.03) e-230
