‘God will never desert me’: a paralysed man thanks the Bible Society of Kenya

NAIROBI, Kenya — A letter received by the Bible Society of Kenya gives a fascinating insight into how the opening of Coastal Zone offices in Mombasa, around 500 kms (311 miles) east of Nairobi, in June 2001 has had an impact on the life of one man.

Josphat Mutua, who wrote the letter, received a Bible from the Coastal Zone offices, which were established with Opportunity 21 funding. He tells how this Bible has become a valuable source of encouragement since an undiagnosed disease left him paralysed from the waist down and he was abandoned in hospital by his family:

“I am writing this letter to tell you that I received the Bible and that I am enjoying reading it since I do not have people to visit me in the hospital. I am very happy [to have received it] and I thank God for it. The Word of God is very sweet.”

“I received the Bible and that I am enjoying reading it since I do not have people to visit me in the hospital.”

Mr Mutua goes on in his letter to express his conviction that God will sustain him and bring him healing:

“I thank God because I believe that he will heal me and give me good health. One disappointing thing is that my people deserted me, but God will never desert me.”

He also praises the Bible Society and asks for its continued support: “I congratulate you and your work. God bless you day and night to continue with this good work. I need powerful prayer from you because up to now I am still here in hospital. Thank you for your co-operation.” (WR 374/35 - 2.03) [PHOTOS]
