SAT-7 Cairo studio destroyed by fire

CAIRO, Egypt — Fire has destroyed the Regional Television Production Studio at the media centre established by Christian broadcaster SAT-7 in Cairo in January.

It is not yet known what caused the fire, which also resulted in smoke and water damage to much of the rest of the building. All the contents of the studio were destroyed, and initial estimates indicate that damage to equipment alone will cost more than US$400,000. SAT-7 hopes to re-open parts of the building soon.

Terence Ascott, its international Chief Executive Officer, has called on supporters to be “in prayer for the Egypt team as they handle this very disappointing development.” He expressed the hope that the incident would “strengthen team unity and our ties with the Christian community in Egypt – many of whom have already expressed their sincere sympathy and concern.” (WR 372/35A - 11.02) e-212 [September 13 2002]
