Message of hope

SUVA, Fiji — Fijian President Ratu Josefa Iliola showed strong support for Bible Week, held by the Bible Society in the South Pacific between June 29 and July 7. He featured in a 30-second television advertisement which was funded by the government and broadcast in the run-up to and during Bible Week.

Other initiatives associated with Bible Week, the theme of which was ‘God’s Word Gives Hope’, included the distribution to pastors of 15,000 copies of a Bible Week Study on the Gospel of John, and visiting churches with a mobile film show.

In the Solomon Islands, Bible Week events included a seven-a-side football tournament and a children’s Bible quiz. Many people attended the closing ceremony at the Melanesian cultural village, at which contributions were made by theological students and members of the South Seas Evangelical Central Church.
