World Cup Portion a winner in South Korea

SEOUL, South Korea — There was a very positive reaction to the special multilingual Gospel of Luke produced by the Japan Bible Society and the Korean Bible Society for the 2002 soccer World Cup. The use of 10 different languages played a significant role in ensuring that this Portion, which contained testimonies from four Christian players and a foreword from Jay Kabira, a well-known actor, appealed to a wide range of players and fans. The Portion, entitled The Good News, was distributed by 35 churches, 27 missionary organisations and five other groups. Some 60,000 copies were distributed in South Korea, along with 50,000 in Japan and around 2,000 in Singapore. Those involved in its distribution, which included the 2002 World Cup Christian Volunteers and Korea Campus Crusade for Christ, report that the colourful sporty look and convenient size gave it visual appeal.
