Bible Societies ready for World Cup action

SEOUL, South Korea — The Korean Bible Society and the Japan Bible Society are using the soccer World Cup as a valuable outreach opportunity, undertaking a number of special distribution projects. In particular, the two Societies have collaborated to produce a multilingual Gospel of Luke in 10 languages. This brightly coloured, pocket-sized Scripture will be distributed to players, team officials, organisers, FIFA (Fédération Internationale de Football Associations) staff and fans by mission organisations and churches.

It contains Luke’s Gospel, along with testimonies and colour photographs of four Christian soccer players and a map of Japan and South Korea showing the locations of all 20 World Cup stadiums. Eui Hyun Kwon, Production and Distribution Director at the Korean Bible Society, welcomed the fact that the co-operation of Bible Societies holding the copyright of the Bible text in each language has made it possible to offer the Scripture free of charge. Another publication produced specially for distribution during the World Cup is a Korean-Japanese Diglot Bible. (WR 369/25- 7/8.02) e-200
