AHMEDABAD, India — The Bible Society of India has undertaken extensive relief work and distributed many Scriptures following the earthquake in Gujarat in January 2001. The disaster has allowed the Society to demonstrate Christian love in practical ways to the more than 50 million people in the area who were directly or indirectly affected.

Essential household items have been distributed to 5,000 families, and Society representatives have also visited many churches to distribute Bibles, New Testaments, Portions and audio Scriptures. The Society has speeded up translation of material into the Kachchi language, which is widely spoken in Gujarat and elsewhere. The Gospels of Matthew and Luke have already been distributed in this language, and Mark and John will be available shortly. (WR 368/41 - 6.02) e-188 [PHOTOS]
