Bible Society quick to respond to Peru’s
‘worst blaze in 40 years’

LIMA, Peru — The Peruvian Bible Society distributed a Scripture Portion entitled Dios es nuestro refugio y nuestra fuerza [‘God is our refuge and our strength’] to those seeking friends and relatives among the victims of the fire which caused widespread damage to a shopping centre and neighbouring buildings in Lima on December 30, 2001. A total of 289 people died in the blaze, with a further 600 being injured and 352 going missing. The Bible Society worked with a Roman Catholic humanitarian group to respond rapidly to the needs of the bereaved. (WR 368/31 - 6.02) e-189
