Thousands of Scriptures reach Malawi flood victimsBLANTYRE, Malawi Tens of thousands of people affected by severe flooding early last year have received Scriptures in their own languages through a distribution effort organised by the Bible Society of Malawi (BSM). The Scriptures, which comprised 3,000 New Testaments and 2,000 Portions in Chisena (Sena) and 6,000 New Reader Portions in Chichewa (Chewa), were funded through a donation by the Reformed Mission League in the Netherlands. The response to the distribution was overwhelming according to Patrick Semphere, BSM Media Officer, who described the joy of ordinary people, school teachers and local officials who received Scriptures. The distribution mainly took place in Nsanje and Chikwawa, where nearly 35,000 homes were destroyed. (WR 367/7 - 3.02) e-176 |
