Pope praises Translation for bringing churches together

ROME, Italy — The Pope and representatives of the Bible Society in Italy and UBS have highlighted the role of the interconfessional Common Language Translation (CLT) of the New Testament in fostering good relations between confessions separated for centuries by differences. The representatives met Pope John Paul II and the Italian President, Carlo Ciampi, in separate ceremonies in Rome in November. The meetings marked the 25th anniversary of the interconfessional Common Language Translation of the New Testament and the distribution of more than 10 million copies. The Pope called the translation “one of the most significant fruits of the co-operation between churches and ecclesiastical communities in Italy.” (WR 366/7 - 1/2.02) e-172 [PHOTOS]
