Posters show Bible in contemporary settings
The five posters consist of contemporary photographs combined with brief Bible texts. One shows a little girl looking at her reflection in a puddle. Another (right) shows a man in an industrial setting with the text from 1 Timothy 5:18: Workers should be given their pay. We wanted to raise interest in the Bible before the publication of the new footnotes edition of the new Bible translation, Bible 2000, said the Rev Anders Alberius, the General Secretary of the Swedish Bible Society. The message was aimed at ordinary Swedes, to show them that the old words and wisdom of the Bible say something and become alive when they meet the things that happen to us in our daily lives. But if you put the Bible down, it remains silent. The posters were launched in July on 1,800 poster sites around the country and gained a lot of media coverage, as well as visits to the Societys web site where they can also be seen. The Society is now keen to sell prints of them to churches, schools and libraries. An earlier poster campaign, which accompanied the launch of Bible 2000 at the end of November 1999, won awards for the Society (see WR 348/14).
