Troubled Jamaica ‘needs prayers for peace’KINGSTON, Jamaica — Following recent gun battles in Kingston, Jamaica, the Rev Courtney Stewart, the General Secretary of the Bible Society of the West Indies, has said that prayers are needed for a sense of peace and calm to be restored. At least 28 people were killed and dozens more injured in gun battles which broke out in a poor area of the capital, Kingston, over the weekend of July 7-8. The dead included two police officers and a soldier. “The Bible Society had to close down on the Monday,” said Mr Stewart, who said he could hear gunfire from his house.
