BSI distributes to the suffering people of GujaratBANGALORE, India The Bible Society of India (BSI) has responded to the devastation left by the earthquake in the state of Gujarat in January (see World Report 358) with a distribution of Scriptures at Gandhidham, at the northeast end of the Gulf of Kutch. The Gospels of Mark and Luke in the Kutchchi language, which were rushed into production shortly after the quake itself, were distributed, together with Bibles, New Testaments, Scripture Selections and Scripture audio cassettes. While the relief and rehabilitation works are carried out by many organisations, we from the Bible Society of India are involved in bringing the message of hope and consolation, said the Rev Nicholas Parmar, Secretary of the BSI Gujarat Auxiliary. The BSI Auxiliary in Gujarat was considering various other courses of action, he added. The need is felt by the people of Kutch for the New Testament to be translated and published in Kutchchi for distribution to people, he said. The Gospels of Matthew and John are nearing completion of the translation stage. (WR 362/8 - 09.01) e-152 [PHOTOS] |
