New Testament welcomed by
Philippines sports fans and athletes
MANDALUYONG CITY, Philippines
— Top athletes, Christian leaders and
sports fans gathered in April for the launch of a new Bible Society Scripture
product – a diglot sports New Testament entitled Victory Beyond Competition.
The Scripture was developed through a partnership between the Philippine
Bible Society (PBS) and Campus Crusade for Christ, co-ordinated by
Toti Andes, Director of Athletes in Action, Philippines. It includes the
testimonies and photographs of popular sports personalities, such as Philippine
Basketball Association players Isabelo ‘Jojo’ Lastimosa and
Alfonso Solis, football player Rowena Amante, and former basketball star
Abet Guidaben, who is running for council in Quezon City. The new publication
is available in both Protestant and Roman Catholic editions as well as
in three different diglot editions, featuring the text of Today’s
English Version alongside Popular Versions in either Cebuano, Ilocano
