Hope
for Nigeria
n
This girl (left) has had to leave school to help feed and clothe her
family through selling food and other goods to travellers. Like many
other roadside sellers in Nigeria, she comes from a desperately poor
family and, with little education, has no hope for a better future.
The Bible Society of Nigeria (BSN) is
seeking to reach out to young people like her with simple New Reader
Portions about Old Testament characters. Through the Opportunity
21 program, these Scriptures will be made available on cassette
as well as in printed form in the languages of Hausa, Fulfulde, Kanuri,
Yoruba and Arabic.
n
Many children like these pictured here in the predominantly non-Christian
area of Pambegua, northern Nigeria, will soon have access to suitable
Scripture material that presents the Bibles message in a non-confrontational
way in their own language. With funds from the UBS Opportunity
21 initiative, and with the help of churches and mission organisations,
the Bible Society of Nigeria (BSN) is
preparing audio and video Scriptures that will open Gods Word
for children like these and their parents.
The BSN, through the Faith
Comes By Hearing program, is also promoting the use of the Hausa
New Testament on audio cassette.
