Indonesian Bible Society produces first children’s film

JAKARTA, Indonesia — The Indonesian Bible Society (LAI) has produced and launched its first Bible-based children’s film.

A mixture of animated models and cartoons, David the Brave is based on 1 Samuel 17 and tells the story of how the boy David defeated Goliath.

Story in a story

The story is set in the context of a modern story of a brother and sister, at home, frightened and alone, on a stormy night. Their big sister comes home and comforts them by telling them the story of David’s bravery when he faced Goliath.

The film, which has been produced in both English and Indonesian, lasts 24 minutes and is planned as the first episode of a series.

Bible solutions

Called The Bible Family, the series is to portray Christian families who try to solve their problems by recourse to the Bible.

The main aim of David the Brave is to provide teaching material in elementary schools and Sunday Schools for children aged between 7 and 10 years old, but the LAI is also hoping that Christian parents will buy it to show at home. Hence it is being distributed through secular bookshops as well as through the Society’s usual distributors.

The idea of producing the film came out of the LAI Media Working Group, and the script was written by the Society’s Media Officer. The film is available in video and DVD formats. (WR 359/27 - 4/5.01) [PHOTOS]
