Crisis in Peru paves the way for distribution of Selections and PortionsLIMA, Peru The Peruvian Bible Society is to follow a successful distribution of Bible Selections to the people of its crisis-weary country with a second during the run-up to the general election. Peruvians are hoping the election, which is due in April and follows the resignation of disgraced President Alberto Fujimori, will mark a turn in the moral tide of government. Last year the Peruvian Bible Society undertook a national distribution of a Selection called The Change of National Attitude. Since then the head of the National Intelligence Service, who was also President Fujimoris principal adviser, has fled the country and so, in effect has Mr Fujimori, who resigned while on a visit to Japan in November. The extended crisis apparently increased demand for the Selection which has been prepared as a tabloid newspaper, and also recorded on a CD which was broadcast by a secular radio station. The second Selection is entitled The President that Peru Needs, and two Portions on related subjects are in preparation. (WR 359/23 - 4/5.01)e-134 |
