LAHORE,
Pakistan On an historic day in January, the Pakistan
Bible Society launched its Urdu New Testament with Study Notes in Lahores
Anglican cathedral. Comprising almost a thousand pages, the Urdu New Testament
provides a wealth of cultural, geographical and historical background. It explores
the relationship between the Old and the New Testament, it introduces and gives
overviews of the four Gospels and the Epistles, and it contains a glossary,
maps, and photographs of ancient Greek manuscripts dating from the second to
the fourth centuries. With its attractive green cover and gilt-edged pages,
the New Testament went on sale on the day of the launch and a thousand copies
were either ordered or sold. Urdu is the official language of Pakistan, 95 per
cent of whose people are Muslims. (WR 358/27 - 03.01) [PHOTOS] e-129
