n Brazil Photo story: This mother and her son are among many thousands of people living in remote communities along the Amazon River who have received Scriptures and medical care through the Bible Society of Brazil’s (BSB) Light of the Amazon project, which began in 1962. Although the Amazon basin is rich in botanical and animal species, life is hard for the people who live there. Many live below the poverty line, and malnutrition and poor sanitary conditions have resulted in a high sickness rate. Isolated and with very limited access to education and health care, the people of this vast region often feel forgotten by the outside world. Committed to changing social realities through God’s Word, the BSB operates two boats along the river, bringing medical, dental and psychological care to the remote river communities as well as distributing Scriptures.
