New ‘Miracles’ Portion for Children

BUENOS AIRES, Argentina — The Argentine Bible Society (ABS) has just produced Miracles, the latest in its Jesus series of Scripture Portions in cartoon form for children between 5 and 9 years old.

Introduced by a cartoon boy called Timi, the 24-page, CD-sized booklet presents accounts of some nine miracles of Jesus as described in the Gospel according to Mark. The ABS decided to produce the series after a market analysis it undertook showed that Bible-based materials for children were either of high quality but expensive, or cheap but of poor quality. The Jesus series aims to combine high quality with a price low enough to achieve a mass distribution.

Designed to appeal to churchgoing and non-churchgoing children alike, they are being distributed through churches, and secular and Christian bookshops. The others in the Jesus series are entitled Birth, Childhood and Blessings. Each title has had a printrun of 50,000. The ABS says that, depending on the reception given to the four titles produced so far, it may extend the series further. (WR 356/24 - 12.00)
