Bishops and pastors joined family members and friends for the funeral in March
of Faustine Mongi, wife of the Rev Albert Mongi, General Secretary of the
Bible Society of Tanzania. Mrs Mongi died in hospital
in Tanzania on March 8 after suffering a stroke. Her funeral took place eight
days later in a church just yards from their home in the town of Marangu,
to the east of Mount Kilimanjaro. The couple's five daughters had returned
home from Australia, the United States, and England to attend. Members of
the Board and staff of the Bible Society of Tanzania were also present, together

l UNITED KINGDOM Compass Braille, which produces Braille Bibles for Asia, celebrated its 10th anniversary in May. At a special service in a north Devon church, guests watched a drama about Jesus healing the blind and sang a hymn specially written for the occasion by the well-known composer Timothy Dudley-Smith. Tony and Rona Gibb told guests how they founded Compass Braille in 1990, in response to an extreme shortage of Braille Bibles in the main languages of India. A Christian operation with a staff of six and a team of volunteers, the company produces around 2,000 Bibles and several hundred Christian booklets in two dozen languages each month. These are distributed freely abroad. Compass Braille is supported by churches and individuals, as well as by UBS grants. (WR 351/IB2 - 06.00)
