Scriptures move
powerfully in Ghana
The
Scripture cassette ministry
Faith Comes By Hearing (FCBH) is well-established
in Ghana where various aspects of it are
funded by O-21.
Translated into Ghanaian languages for dramatised, multi-voice presentation
and enhanced by music, the cassette readings make a particularly effective
way of bringing the Gospel to non-readers. The quotations and stories
here, from participants in the ministry, testify to its continuing impact.
From the
Asante Twi language group
Since
FCBH started two years ago, habitual non-readers have begun to hear
God's word clearly, to read their Bibles and to contribute to discussions.
The program has attracted many people. Churchgoers from other denominations
and non-churchgoers flock to my church to listen to the program every
Saturday. Attendance averages 200-350 people. Sampson

My
members have found a new preacher in the church: they invite people
to church to listen to FCBH! This has resulted in commitment to Christ.
This year about 25 people have accepted Christ in my church and they
are being nourished by the FCBH program. M K Afful,
pastor of the Musama Disco Christo Church
I am most grateful to God that
I have this precious Bible in audio format which is in my mother tongue.
The cassette has really saved me from worry. Prior to receiving it,
I felt rejected by men and had to beg people sometimes my own
family members including my own children just to read a portion
of the Bible to me. Often, they would read it incorrectly.
Now, whenever I play the cassette, I feel the presence of God. Also,
I am able to hear the readings from the Bible very clearly and with
understanding. The pronunciation is accurate. The cassette has been
my close companion from the day it was first given to me and it will
be my companion for life. Praise God. Stephen Torgbui,
a young blind farmer who is an elder and preacher in an Evangelical
Presbyterian church in a village 30 kms (20 miles) from Accra.
A story from the Éwé
language group
A
fetish priest in a village in the Volta region who had been bothering
and challenging the faith of Christians gave his life to Christ after
listening to Matthew, chapter 4, on a FCBH cassette. The priest, who had
been troubling the village with his spells for a long time, surrendered
to Christ after attempting to disrupt a listening session. Later, while
listening to the Scriptures himself, he asked the villagers to forgive
him for his sins and went and brought his idols and asked the local pastor
to burn them. He has since been baptised. (SR 29/24 - 4/5.02)
