Fundamentalist Hindu Organisations

RSS (Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh): a Hindu nationalist party which works for a purely Hindu India, free of foreign influence. The group was responsible for the murder of Mahatma Gandhi.

VHP (Vishwa Hindu Parishad): a Hindu religious organisation affiliated to the RSS (see above). On September 30, 1998, the Secretary of VHP warned Christian missionaries to get out of India.

Bajrang Dal: a militant youth organisation which counts 500,000 ‘Hindu storm-troopers’, many of whom receive military training.

Sangh Parivar: the extreme fanatical group responsible for the murder of missionary Graham Staines and his sons. It is very active in Gujarat and Uttar Pradesh states.
